Five major causes of oil ingress
Excavator oil ingress of light water will cause deformation of important parts such as the engine crankshaft and connecting rod, causing engine vibration, and heavy water will cause parts to break and the engine to be scrapped. So what causes water to enter the engine?
1. Engine water plugging and leaking
Due to the corrosion of scale, the water plug is rusted through, and the cooling water will enter the oil channel from the water channel until the oil pan. This reason is very common, so check the water blockage frequently.
2. The oil radiator is damaged
If the radiator pipe is damaged, the water outside the radiator will seep into the oil radiator, causing the oil to enter the water.
3. There are cracks in the cylinder liner
When the cooling water comes into contact with the working cylinder liner, it is easy to produce cracks. Once the cracks occur, the cooling water will directly enter the cylinder and enter the oil pan through the cylinder wall, which will cause the engine oil to turn white, and the turn of the oil will lead to poor engine combustion, white smoke and other problems. Under normal circumstances, the cylinder liner is not prone to cracks, but in some cases, for example, the cooling water is not filled with antifreeze in winter, resulting in freezing, which may cause cracks in the cylinder liner.
4. The cylinder liner seal ring is damaged
Damage to the cylinder liner seal ring is a common cause of oil ingress, so when troubleshooting the cause of the fault, you must remember to check whether the cylinder liner seal ring is intact.
5. The cylinder gasket is damaged
If the cylinder gasket is damaged and the water circulation is fast, the water in the water channel will flow into the oil channel, causing the oil to enter the water. Cylinder gasket damage is also one of the common reasons for engine oil water ingress. After disassembling the machine each time, try to use a new cylinder gasket to avoid engine oil leakage caused by cylinder gasket leakage and engine damage.
Four Judgment Methods for Engine Oil Ingress
1. Observe the appearance of the oil of the excavator, and you can easily judge whether the oil contains water through the color. Motor oil without water will appear translucent and oily bright, while motor oil with water will appear opaque brown or khaki.
2. Check whether the excavator coolant contains oil. If some parts of the engine are damaged, the engine coolant will enter the lubrication system and mix with the oil, and the seeped oil will also be found in the water tank coolant, which can be easily identified.
3. If the engine oil enters water, it will chemically react with the coolant in a high temperature environment to form an emulsion. Check the dipstick and it will be white with foam.
4. When the engine oil of the excavator contains a lot of water, the oil level of the engine oil will rise. At this point, we can simply judge by the level of the oil dipstick.
